If you are looking for a good starting point for your stay in the region, then you should consider the romantic village of Schönau am Königssee. Winterberg is a popular ski resort in North Rhine-Westphalia. Even if this mountain region does not reach the height of the Alps – the ski slopes are at a maximum altitude of 850 meters – it is an ideal destination for skiers and snowboarders arriving from the big cities in the west of the country. A trip from Frankfurt, Cologne or Düsseldorf to the slopes in Winterberg takes just over 2 hours.
The entire ski resort consists of 34 groomed slopes on three mountain slopes, which have 20 lifts to take you up. There are many snow cannons available, so that skiing fun is guaranteed on the main slopes even without snowfall. 14 of the slopes are also equipped with floodlights, so that you can ski until well after sunset.
