About the Elferrrine
The Elferrine Ski Tour, is one of the most demanding within Kleinwalsertal. The hight mountain summit more the Elferkopf 2378m offers breath taking views of the surrounding valley’s, whilst the challenging terrain puts up a fight for even the most experienced ski mountaineer
The Elferkopf was first mentioned by Blasius Hueber’s Vorarlberg map in 1783.
The mountains is situated in the Kleinwaslsertal Valley. The easterly slops of the Elkerkopf face towards Wildental, whilst the South, West and Northern flanks of the mountain look upon Wildenalpe.
Name Origin
The name Elferrine derives from the German words “Elfer” means 11 o’clock (as the sun is over the mountain summit at the time), and word “rinner” which mean gutter.
Frist Ascent
The first assent of the Elferkopf is unknown. The first recorded climb preformed by Hermann von Barth in 1869, he found a signal bar on the summit.
Start Location
Bergheim Mosre Car Park 1178m (5euro per day). Alternative parking can be found at Mossstraße. Its is best to start early as parking is limited in this area.
The Ascent
the Elferrine Ski Tour Starts directly from the car park at the end of road. Contiune SE past the logging mill left, Turing left at a suitable point between the forest toward the Innere Wiesalpe Hut 1298m. From here the the route become increasingly steep following the towards the Fluchalpe 1390m. From here the valley SW into the bowl towards the Liechelkopf. At around 2000m turn N towards the summit of the Elferkopf.
The Descent
50m W of the summit is a smell gutter “ The Elferrine” which contains a fixed abseil point. It is advised to kit with crampon and abseil equipment before moving off the summit. Descend the very steep narrow gulley, that requires 2 x 30m abseils. From here there is only one route down a extremely steep gully, cross the rock band and continue down towards Wiesaple. Good route selection is needed due a number of outcrops.
